A suggested starting point for most South Africans is:
1) Start with the:
- T-Tape Technique which is the most commonly used ‘taping technique’. For this you will need:
- A suspender strap – Woolworths has these pre-made, or contact a sewing store/tailor – or see the TLC option below which sends you one in the pack. Some may need to buy suspender clips and elastic band at a sewing shop and make a strap)
- Micropore 2 inch wide tape (local SA pharmacy), and;
- Transparency paper (PNA).
- That is it, then go to the T-Tape Technique picture book, to learn how to make them.
2) At the same time order the following:
- The TLC Tugger is very popular, and Ron Louw that operates the company is very helpful and professional. Generally you would start with this order:
- A Canister Starter Kit for $12 and associated tape for it, the 2″ Mefix Tape – 35 Day Roll – 11 yards for $10.25 .
- This will allow you to grow skin early on and dispense with the t-taping option if you like.
- The original TLC kit for $60 – includes the TCL Tugger, a retaining cone, and 2 suspender straps.
- A Packer for $22 – for when you are not tugging, in order to keep coverage and retain sensitivity. Size PO is the beginning size
- And finally $24 Postal Insurance (required if you want to actually get the package in South Africa). Total = $128.25
- A Canister Starter Kit for $12 and associated tape for it, the 2″ Mefix Tape – 35 Day Roll – 11 yards for $10.25 .
- The instructions files for the TLC are downloadable/viewable here.
- NB: you need to send Ron some measurements to get the correct size.
